Upon getting in late, due to Fleet Week traffic and having to stop at the deli for milk so I could enjoy my cup(s) of coffee, I dropped all my stuff in my cubicle. I turned on my computer, and immediately headed to the kitchen to make the yummy yummy coffee and fill yet another dumpster with the piles of trash that we bagged up yesterday. I still can't believe that these people have kept multiple copies of files and other such nonsense since 1945...I mean, come on. When I returned to my cubicle my first act was to get Pandora up and running...because we all know, I CANNOT function without background music. I double click on my little Pandora icon, the first song starts playing, and I turned around to pick up my cup of coffee for that glorious first sip. Suddenly, I hear the song I'm listening to warp and then freeze mid chorus. Bad news. I look at my screen and low-and-behold: THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (BSoD).
Not good. I restart, and I get nothing....my desktop is wiped, no programs, no documents. Hence the stress! I promptly took pictures of my monitor and texted my fav IT guy. He said he was uptown somewhere and would get to me ASAP. That was at 9:30 - he showed up at 12:45. So needless to say, not having a computer freed up my morning. I did some cleaning, and more trash-dumping, drank about 4 cups of iced coffee, because I had nothing else to do (right now as I type you should see my leg bouncing a mile a minute.....). So IT guy semi-fixed my problem...it still looks like my files and programs are missing but everything functions, he's coming back to finish the job tomorrow. Woof.
The second half of my day I was scared to touch the computer, so I clicked open my Pandora (thank God it worked, I left my iPod at home today!), and I did paperwork. Who knew I did so much non-computer stuff?? I didn't....maybe because I avoid it. I filed this weeks paper stack, which I usually leave until I have a month's worth, and then I organized all the reports I had on my desk, and divided out the American Express payments from the check and the Visa/MasterCard payments, which will be helpful when my computer finally works and I can enter in all the data. I also 3-hole-punched them all, so they are binder-ready as soon as I enter them.
Sidenote: My co-workers like to staple, paper-clip and binder-clip reports before they give them to me for entry. (Why does one report need 17 staples, two different sized paper-cilps and one binder clip? WHY?) It makes the reports impossible to work with. By day's end today, I had about 200 staples and 75 paper-clips/binder-clips on my desk...and guess what, they all went into the trash. I was not collecting all the small clips, the medium clip and the extra large clips and distributing them into whatever box they are packed in for the move...no. One sweep, right into the trash.
This was my day. Fun. At least my cubicle is finally clean.
